State Awards Banquet and State Meeting hosted by Mile High Chapter in Denver on August 21st
The Sijan Chapter was represented at the State Banquet and Meeting by Dave Shiller, Gayle and Sharon White, Brian and Barbara Binn, Tim Tichawa, Joan Sell, Jerry White and Dave Warner. Colorado Springs did very well in the military awards. USAFA won Airman of the Year, NCO of the Year and CGO of the Year, as well as Cadet of the Year. The 21st Space Wings won Civilian Category 1 of the Year. Sijan’s Teacher of the Year select won Teacher of the Year for the State.
Sijan AFA winners included BARB BINN AS STATE MEMBER OF THE YEAR!!!! – Congrats Barb! National Awards were recognized: Linda Aldrich and Barb Binn won Exceptional Service Awards; Tim Tichawa won the Medal of Merit. The Chapter was recognized for the Donald Steele Award, best AFA Chapter in the Nation. State Awards included: Superior Excellence Award – Jeri Andrews, Joe Kahoe, Hank Scarangella, Sharon White, Roy Griggs, Tom Ocvirk, Dave Shiller; Presidential Citation – Ewa Folden, Bill Houth, Bob Cooper.
At the State Meeting, the biggest news was elections. Our own Chapter member TIM TICHAWA IS THE NEW STATE PRESIDENT. Emilie Boschert is the Vice President. Congrats to both of them and we are proud to see younger, active duty Airmen in the roles as well as Emerging Leader Program alums. Chapter recaps their activities and National candidates presented their campaign remarks. The October State Quarterly Meeting was announced as moving from Grand Junction to Colorado Springs on October 11 to coincide with the Arnold Air Society and Silver Wings Area Conclave being held in Colorado Springs.
