Guest speaker talking about March of Dimes (Sarah Carter on board; Gayle White (AFA member) is chairman); gave background; Started 80 years ago as a fight against polio; now the focus is on premature babies (CO Springs average is above nat’l average. Premature babies for deployed military families is worse—much higher stress levels for the pregnant mothers; Army is the only military hospital in the area. Study on military women who became pregnant—high stress levels too. MoD’s is paying for some research on this. Event Dec5th at Hotel Elegante; celebration of the military mothers who are pregnant or very recently had a baby—open to E-5 and lower as recipients in the baby shower; members should come and support; we have the walk and a baby shower (with gifts for the expectant and new mothers). AFA can consider presenting car seats. K-Mart used to sponsor but no longer. Car Seats are important and expensive—especially ones for smaller babies. It’s from 9:30 to 11:30am, December 5th; they’ll be providing baby blankets and baby monitors. If you know a family with a premature baby, please let them know.

– Other—update on Constant Contact: Do we want to set a date to go through the complete roster? Sometime in January. Linda has physical roster with 1799 members for clean-up—Kristen had identified 51 without physical address and 560 without email addresses; considering a mailing to get people to update their addresses & emails; Kristen is going to check into it; 63% of our members are Life Members, but they have not updated info. Scrub done by 14 January and get together 1300 hrs, Saturday, 25 January 2020. Doc, Kristen, Linda, Angelo, and Caty are on for helping.
– Theme for membership meeting: Update on Storytelling? We are not going to call it Storytelling (a Peterson name); we are scheduling the date of 8 February 2020; Doc has a couple of folks who will be POCs
– Combined Holiday Party update: Angelo pushed out to members today; December 10th at Pinery on the Hill sponsored by Rocky MT NDIA, AFCEA and Sijan AFA; 5:50-8:30pm; wear our AFA name tags
– Feedback on Celebration of Service event: screening was excellent; Gary Sinise wasn’t able to make it (son has medical problems); none of the board members made it to the breakfast. The movie is good, but won’t be released in theatres.
– Feedback on the first Community Champion (Mr. Gary Sinise) receiving the Sijan Service Award—General Rand received the award on behalf of Gary Sinise.
